What is californium oxide used for. In 1991-92 21 tonnes of MOX was reprocessed at Marcoule and 47 tonnes was reprocessed La Hague. A small amount of yttrium oxide is added to zirconium oxide to make what is known as yttria-stabilized zirconia also called YSZ. Tantalum is a rare hard blue-gray lustrous transition metal that is highly corrosion-resistant.

YSZ is also used to make the lambda sensors fitted to the exhaust sytem of your car. That has the unusual property of conducting oxide ions making it very useful in these fuel cells. Previously known as tantalium it is named after Tantalus a villain from Greek mythology.

Its used as to make filaments for incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs as well as for television tubes. As an alloy it is used for a very long list of applications in various industries. It is part of the refractory metals group which are widely used as minor components in alloys.

Tantalum is a chemical element with the symbol Ta and atomic number 73.
